Our Association with the Australia Refrigeration Council (ARC)
Mr Cool Automotive is proud to be associated with the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC), and has held a refrigerant handling license issued by ARC since the early 1990’s, when the Australian government first put regulations in place to protect the environment against ozone depleting refrigerant gases. ARC is the governing body for these regulations and is responsible for granting and revoking refrigerant handling licenses and refrigerant trading authorisations. To learn more about ARC, click here.
It was in the early 1990’s that the automotive industry stopped using refrigerant gas R12 (extremely detrimental when released into the environment) and started using R134a, a gas with insignificant ozone depleting potential. Not only is R134a much friendlier to the environment, it’s also non-toxic and non-flammable which means that if you do have a leak in your system, you are safe from any harmful substances.
Being an ARC certified business, we use only R134a in our workshop and handle it only in accordance with ARC guidelines, using our state of the art recovery stations which safely removes and recycles R134a from your system. R134a is also the only refrigerant gas used by car manufacturers, so if your car is less than 20 years old you can be sure it’s run on R134a.
A little more info…
The Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989 and related Acts (the Ozone Acts) protect the environment by reducing emissions of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGGs), such as R134a. The Ozone Acts control the manufacture, import, export and end use of ODS and SGGs and products containing these gases. These gases are commonly used as refrigerant gases in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
